Good morning,
I'm a mom of many (see my siggy if I did it right) 6 biological kids and 3 adopted. I'm 27 weeks pregnant with Andrew Benedict. The doctors have not been able to make an official diagnosis for Andrew. All of the genetic testing came back normal. He has severe hydrocephaly...at yesterday's ultrasound his head measured the size of an average 31 week baby. His chest cavity is also very small. His lungs are terriblly underdeveloped as his heart is taking up 75% of his small chest. Yesterday was the first time the ultrasound detected a thickening of the heart walls and fluid around his heart, indicating heart failure has begun.
Seven weeks ago we had hope that he would be born alive and that we would get a few hours with him. Yesterday we were told there is now a high probability of a stillbirth.
We have recently moved to NC from Indianapolis (3 weeks ago, actually) so we are now also trying to navigate a new town, parish, doctor and hospital, and the fact that we have virtually no local support as our families and friends are all in the midwest. Life is challenging to say the least. I'm so grateful to have found this group.

Amy, there is a neonatologist I feel comfortable referring people to at UNC. If you think there is enough disparity in the accounts you were given about baby Andrew Benedict, and want to talk to him about what they are saying, he says he would be happy to talk with you. I'll get you his email/phone if interested. It would have to be like an "informal" discussion . . . Prayers and hugs!

Hey Amy,
I woke up in the night and decided to check on Laura. I am not sure if you got my PM.
I am praying for you and wanted to be sure you knew. Thank you for your link the other day to the blog.
Love,
Cheryl

Cheryl, Yes I got your PM...thanks so much! It came at a good time, after what I've started calling my triple D's - Difficult Duke Days. Between the hour in the car and the never ending new (and usually not good) news, I really dread Duke days. God gave me a great blessing this week, however, which I'm trying to figure out the best way to share. It was a true comfort from my Daddy. I'll try to get the full story up this weekend.

Usually going to Duke once a week, but this coming week is twice (once or a scan, once with the palliative care team) so I asked if I could have the following week off! They agreed so I'll have a week break before going back.

Amy, I got Andrew's beautiful birth announcement yesterday. Thank you for that - it was a privilege to be on your little guy's send-to list.
